Glossary

Plain-language definitions for CueForge terms and concepts.

Actor Support

Optional Audio Deep Editor feature that adds voice tracks for performers (actor, source file, per-track show mode, trims, gain). Production-dependent; rehearse with it before relying on it.

Arm / Armed

The cue that GO will fire next. Armed with arrow keys in Show Mode; shown in the Next Armed status card.

Audio Bus

A named volume/mute group that audio cues can be assigned to, so a whole family of cues rides one fader.

Audio Deep Editor

The detailed authoring surface for audio cues: waveform, markers, beat grid, phrases, actor support. Open embedded via Open Deep Editor or detached via Open Detached. Edit Mode only — never affects the live show.

Auto-Continue

A continuation setting: when the cue completes, the next cue fires immediately.

Auto-Follow

A continuation setting: when the cue completes, the next cue arms and waits for GO.

Blackout

Clears all visual output instantly. Toggle with B; available even under Show Lock.

Call Cue

A cue that fires another cue in the list — Fire and Continue (parallel) or Wait for Completion (sequential).

Commissioning

The Outputs window tab with generated test patterns (alignment grid, crosshair, and similar) used to align and focus displays. Patterns are not cues and never affect the show.

Control Mapping

The Window → Control Mapping surface where incoming OSC, MIDI, and HTTP signals are mapped to global show actions, cue actions, or continuous parameters such as bus gain.

Cue

One instruction in the show: play audio, show an image, wait, send OSC, and so on. CueForge has twelve cue types.

Cue List

The ordered list of cues that makes up a show, worked through with GO.

Deep Editor (embedded / detached)

Two window forms of the Audio Deep Editor: embedded inside the main window, or detached in its own window (Open Detached / Window → Open Prep Authoring Window). Only one detached window exists; reopening focuses it.

Dirty State

The project has unsaved changes. Shown by an indicator; protected by guard dialogs when quitting or switching projects.

Edit Mode

The safe authoring and rehearsal mode. Nothing in Edit Mode can fire live output.

Group Cue

A cue that contains child cues. Sequential runs children one after another; Scene starts them together and completes when all complete.

Inspector

The properties panel showing the selected cue’s identity, timing, routing, notes, warnings, and type-specific settings.

Logical Output

A project-owned output destination that image and video cues target (default: Main Output). Bound to a physical display per workstation.

Manual (Continuation)

A continuation setting: the cue completes and the next cue waits for GO.

Marker / Categories

A labelled point on an audio waveform (21 categories in 5 groups, including Intro, Verse, Chorus, Lighting Hit). Created in the Audio Deep Editor.

Memo Cue

A read-only note shown to the operator. Can require acknowledgement (A) and can be Info, Important, or Critical.

Multichannel Routing

Per-cue mapping of source channels to output device channels. No silent downmix; insufficient channels are flagged in validation.

Output Binding

The workstation-specific mapping between a logical output and a physical display. A missing bound display shows Missing and is never silently rerouted.

PANIC

The emergency stop. Escape or the dedicated button; always works, blocks all transport until you deliberately recover.

Phrase

A named region of a song (intro, verse, chorus) authored in the Audio Deep Editor. Show-design regions — they do not fire outputs yet.

Physical Display

One of this workstation’s actual screens. Machine-owned, distinct from the project’s logical outputs.

Preflight

The automatic analysis before Show Mode. Errors block entry; warnings are acknowledged per session.

Scene

See Group Cue. Also used generally for one unit of the performance.

Show Graph

The read-only Window → Show Graph view of show structure (Design) and what the engine ran (Live Trace). It observes; it never controls.

Show Lock

Cmd/Ctrl+L. Freezes the show configuration: no edits, no undo, no relinking. Save stays allowed. Engine-enforced.

Show Mode

The live operator mode. Editing is locked; the interface shows only what the operator needs.

Start Workspace

The in-window launcher at first launch (File → Start Workspace, Cmd+Shift+N): new project, open project, recent projects, templates, demo projects.

Stop Cue

Stops running cues — one target, or all if no target is set (preflight warns about stop-all).

Take Next

Fires the next cue in a stepped or autonomous sequence without a full GO. Enter.

Test Pattern

A generated display pattern toggled with T for checking output path and alignment.

Timer Overlay

The on-screen count-up/count-down produced by a Timer Cue, with configurable position, label, size, and contrast.

Tool Window

Any of the separate desktop windows opened from the Window menu (Outputs, Show Graph, Timeline, Control Mapping, Audio Deep Editor). Re-selecting focuses instead of duplicating.

Trigger

An incoming signal (OSC, MIDI, HTTP, or another cue) configured to fire a cue or drive a mapping.

Trigger Inbox

The triage drawer for unassigned incoming external input: Approve, Test, Ignore, Reject, Locate. Disabled under Show Lock.

Trigger Monitor

A Show Mode panel showing external-control traffic as it arrives — useful during commissioning.

Wait Cue

Pauses the cue list for a set duration before the sequence continues.
